Chinese New Year Parade
Year of the Water Dragon
Saturday, February 11, 5:15-8:00PM
San Francisco’s Chinatown - see website for parade route and viewing locations
http://www.sanfranciscochinatown.com/events/chinesenewyearparade.html

“Chinese New Year is a two week Spring festival celebrated for over 5,000 years in China. The San Francisco Chinese New Year celebration originated in the 1860's during the Gold Rush day and is now the largest Asian event in North America as well as the largest general market event in Northern California. The celebration includes two major fairs, the Chinese New Year Flower Fair and Chinatown Community Street Fair. All the festivities culminate with Chinese New Year Parade.
Named one of the world's top ten parades, Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco is the largest celebration of its kind outside of Asia. Over 100 units will participate in the parade, many of the floats and specialty units will feature the theme of this year's Chinese zodiac sign. Nowhere in the world will you see a lunar new year parade with more gorgeous floats, elaborate costumes, ferocious lions, and exploding firecrackers. Some of the parade highlights include elaborately decorated floats, school marching bands, martial arts group, stilt walkers, lion dancers, Chinese acrobatics, the newly crowned Miss Chinatown USA and the Golden Dragon. The Golden Dragon is over 201 feet long and is always featured at the end of the parade as the grand finale and will be accompanied by over 600,000 firecrackers! The Golden Dragon was made in Foshan, a small town in China. The Foshan dragonmasters formerly made all the costumes for the Cantonese opera, and the Golden Dragon bears many operatic touches, such as the rainbow colored pompoms on its 6 foot-long head. It is festooned from nose to tail with colored lights, decorated with silver rivets on both scaly sides and trimmed in white rabbit fur. The dragon, made on a skeleton of bamboo and rattan, is in 29 segments. It takes a team of 100 men and women to carry the Golden Dragon. This is also considered an honor to be chosen for the grand finale. Rain or shine, come watch the parade!”

And this class is a journey into my personal philosophies and practices of witchcraft. The methods I share in this class come from my twenty years of experience in making magic that works for my own purposes, and for the good of the world.

Experience non-dogmatic, non-religious, spirit based healing

We work in a community setting - everyone healing together.
We use drums and rattles to keep the beat of a trance state, plus bells and other sounds.
We bring you the healing of the compassionate spirits in whatever form that may take
We use appropriate touch, or the laying on of hands.
We remove negative energy and restore positive energy
We give people messages of hope and comfort from the spirits

All the clinic healers have studied shamanic healing with Stuart and Anne, and have developed deep relationships with the helping spirits.

Stuart Dole, PhD and Anne Hatfield both graduated from the Foundation for Shamanic Studies’ 3-year advanced training, where they studied directly with Michael Harner, author of Way of the Shaman, and Sandra Ingerman, author of Soul Retrieval and How to Heal Toxic Thoughts. They pursued further studies, learning shamanic methods from Tuva (Siberia), Tibet, Hawaii, Brazil, Africa, and the Celtic lands. They were also trained by Sandra Ingerman as shamanic teachers.

Anne has heard messages from the spirits from the time she was a child. She worked in the alternative health field for 25 years. Currently she is a yoga teacher and therapist, a massage therapist and a shamanic practitioner. Her passion is helping others explore those places where body and spirit meet.

Stuart was born into a decidedly atheist family and pursued a career in mathematics and science, earning his PhD in biophysics. But he developed an interest in spirituality, then lived in an ashram and practiced meditation devotedly for more than 30 years. He has subsequently pursued a wide array of methods for developing awareness, or enlightenment, and eventually found his way to shamanism. He is currently a meditation teacher and a shamanic bodyworker. He specializes in helping people become more present in their lives, through embodied awareness.”

The Sacred Well, 536 Grand Avenue, Oakland, 510-444-9355

“Andrea Johnson, MA, is certified in Counseling Psychology and is a trained Emotional Freedom Technique practitioner. She is thrilled to be bringing EFT to The Sacred Well as a fantastic tool for personal growth and healing that complements many different spiritual paths.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) balance the electro-magnetic, energy systems of the body for positive health results. Tapping over the energy meridians of the body release the energy blockages that create negative emotions. Negative emotions are the basis for limiting beliefs, body pains, and unnecessary stress and worry.

As we use our spiritual practices to heal us, EFT is a welcome addition in our "toolbox" for our healing practice.

February's class theme is: Removing physical pains for more energy and increased pleasure in life.”

World Sound Healing Day

http://www.templeofsacredsound.org

“World Sound Healing Day - The Sound Heard Around the World. Every February 14th, people throughout the planet join together with their intentionalized sound to project a sonic valentine of love and appreciation to Gaia, our Earth Mother. We tone the heart sound "Ah" for a minimum of 5 minutes, and of course longer if your schedule permits. Often people will gather groups together and facilitate this toning experience in their respective communities. If possible, we ask that you take at least 5 minutes to tone at 12 noon Eastern time, and as always, we encourage the sounding of the "Ah" by yourself or with a group at any time during the course of the day.

On World Sound Healing Day, sound healers, meditators, peace activists and lovers of all humanity and sentient consciousness send a Sonic Valentine to the Earth with the heart sound "AH" filled with the intention of Peace and Love! This is an opportunity in which YOU can partake in to assist Global Harmonization - the process of creating harmony and peace on the Earth. Your participation and co-creation of this event is both appreciated as well as being necessary for World Sound Healing Day to manifest.”

“Cards for this month: The Hermit and the 4 of Swords

Special Note: if you're not a traditional Valentine's Day type, this will be a great place to join in fun, friendly, lively conversation instead!

Maybe you have taken a class, perhaps tried to learn to read the Tarot from a book, or are just trying to piece it together on your own. Now you want to know how to really "dive in" to what specific cards are all about. This monthly discussion group is where you want to be.

Each month we will take two cards from the Tarot and spend time really getting to know them in a roundtable discussion where we can all learn, share insights and gain inspirations from one another. Bring your favorite Tarot deck with you, and be ready to share, learn (and maybe even teach) some new ideas!”

In the American culture, expectations around fertility and birth are nearly uniformly positive.  When loss strikes - whether that is the death of an infant before or near birth, the inability to conceive, or the loss of the idealized infant when the baby arrives with challenges to physical or mental health - the grief can be staggering.  We have few culturally-sanctioned ways to handle this loss within our community.  More often, the loss is marginalized and individualized.  Mothers grieve alone.  Rarely is the grief of a provider addressed, or the loss of friends, partners, or family members.

Come to The Red Tent to learn more about perinatal loss.  Learn ways to handle loss as a provider, as a support person, and as an individual.  We will address the topic via a multi-modal, multi-sensory experience, designed to meet the needs of many types of learners.  We will consider how you, as a midwife, doula, educator, mother, and friend can be with such a bracing topic in a gentle and welcoming way.

Workshop leaders have decades of experience as women, care providers, and healers.  Yelena Kolodji is a midwife in a well-respected homebirth-oriented private practice.  Sharon Storton is a mental health professional, with an extensive background in perinatal health and trauma recovery.”

American Sabbats with Rabbit

“Rabbit invites believers of all faiths to join her in a series of Round Table discussions and Interfaith ceremonies in celebration of secular American holidays. These holidays drum up a tremendous amount of energy and cross the borders of many different spiritual traditions, but to what purpose? How can we, as Keepers of the Old Ways and Creators of New Traditions, channel this energy toward the highest good for all?

Rabbit will offer a brief presentation on the history of each holiday, its cultural meanings in the US, and then will open a dialogue around how spiritual practitioners might choose to observe these days in sacred ways, engage with them critically and intellectually, and invest them with a deeper personal sense of meaning. The evening will conclude with a ritual to focus the energy around the holiday toward healing and well-being for our nation and our world.”
