A Fool’s Errand
presented by Ragged Wing Ensemble
Friday-Sunday, January 27-29, Friday and Saturday 8:00PM, Sunday 5:00PM
Envision Academy, 1515 Webster Street , Oakland
$15-$30
http://www.raggedwing.org/show/show_detail/19
http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/219999

“The Fortune Project Chapter 1: A Fool’s Errand, created by the Ensemble and directed by Ragged Wing core artist David Stein, is an experiential journey into the nature of doubt, shame, and desire. Using mask performance, circus arts, live music, and site specific performances, the ensemble creates a unique experience for the audience throughout a historic Julia Morgan-designed building in the heart of Oakland's downtown.

Ragged Wing Ensemble opens 2012 with a series of interactive performance events exploring the theme of Fortune.

We investigate how the universe speaks to us through our daily interactions: road signs, dreams, messages and images that find us when we most need them or warn us from going down the wrong path.

How can we take responsibility for our own destiny, while also accepting the cards we are dealt?

Each of the four chapters explores an aspect of this question from a different perspective. This 6 month project will culminate in an evening of pieces in late May directed by various ensemble members.

Upcoming performances:
Chapter 2: Atomic Intuition, March 9-11
Chapter 3: Dangerous Curves Ahead, April 23-May 13
Chapter 4: The Fortune Project: The Complete Works, May 23-27

Ragged Wing Ensemble is a collective of artists who create innovative work for the theater, drawing our theatrical vocabulary from physical theater, dance, clowning, mask work and puppetry. We seek to redefine classic stories, folktales and myths by creating original interpretations and placing them in new contexts. Our process is collaborative - from the  management of the company to the creation of our pieces, from our educational programs to our commitment to low ticket prices and audience involvement.”

“Visioning your life through the Journey

The journey brings us into the liminal state of consciousness from which all creative inspiration springs. It is one of the oldest technologies for understanding the world of spirit and energy. It has been used by shamans, mystics, prophets and spiritual leaders for thousands of years as a vehicle for accessing inner guidance.

This method of accessing inner wisdom is available to us today. The emphasis in the teaching of the journey through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream’s classes is on helping you understand and interpret the language of the journey. We show you how to develop a journey practice that will support and sustain all areas of your spiritual inquiry. And we will show you how to use the vehicle of the journey to help you step into a more informed and dynamic approach to problem solving, into relating to yourself and into relating to those around you.

Although this class is a prerequisite for many of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream’s programs, it stands alone as one of the primary methods of transforming consciousness. With our inspired teaching of the journey, you will learn how to develop a new understanding of your life’s journey and you will be provided with tools that will help you achieve a greater understanding of your life’s purpose.”

“Set during Christmas 1183 at Henry II of England’s chateau in Chinon, Anjou, Angevin Empire, the play opens with the arrival of Henry’s wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, whom he has had imprisoned since 1173. The story concerns the gamesmanship between Henry, Eleanor, their sons Richard, Geoffrey, and John, their guest, Philip II of France (the son of Eleanor’s ex-husband, Louis VII of France), and Philip’s half-sister, Alais, who has been at court since she was betrothed to Richard at age 8, but has since become Henry’s mistress.

The Lion in Winter is fictional; none of the dialogue and actions are historical, although the outcomes and the events leading up to the story are accurate.

Lycanthropos: The Werewolf in Story and Song

Parish Hall, Saint Alban's Episcopal Church, 1501 Washington Avenue, Albany

http://www.timrayborn.com/Concerts.html
http://www.musicsources.org/events_schedule.html

“Tim Rayborn presents an eerie look into the enduring legend of werewolves, a belief which evoked fear and wonder from the Middle East, to the Balkans, to Ireland. These shape-shifters were feared in the Classical world, objects of pity during the Middle Ages, and feared again in the Renaissance.

Using spoken voice, song, and instruments, he will perform ancient, medieval, and Renaissance tales, from the tragic and noble werewolf of the Lai of Bisclaveret by Marie de France (late 12th c.), to the fierce man-wolves of the Icelandic Volsunga Saga (13th-c.). The program will begin with an invocation by Dionysian Maenads from ancient Greece, and the curse of King Lykaon from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, and will close with a recounting of the terrifying true stories of Peter Stumpf in 16th-century Germany, and the mysterious account of 18th-century Beast of Gevaudan in the Haute-Loire of south-central France.

Tim will bring his arsenal of exotic instruments to this concert, including such rarities as lyres from ancient Greece, Scandinavia, and medieval Ireland, Pictish and medieval harps, the sistrum rattle, and other delights.

With special guest, Shirley Hunt, cello, and a gathering of surprise vocalists!

Come and experience a unique music and story-telling event!”

Bonus! Your love letter will be mailed back to you. As a special bonus for attending this class, if you send me your love letter with a stamped and self-addressed envelope by March 20th, I'll hold it in a sacred place in my house until December 21st, when I'll send it back to you. You’ll get your very own love letter from Spirit in the mail! How fun—and powerful—is that?

I want to fully share this work with you, from my own loving heart, and if you feel full and complete and grateful, and want to give back at the end, then I will invite you to make a contribution to me and my work, so that I can continue doing what I am meant to do. Please relax into this open contribution idea. Toward the end of the call, I will help you work out the right amount for you to donate. For now, please enjoy this beautiful self-loving process we will be sharing together.

Last thing: If you know a woman or two who would resonate with this working, please spread the word! Thanks...
