Celebrate Winter
Returning for a third year is our special exhibit, ’Tis the Season for Science. Enjoy indoor snow flurries twice an hour in the Piazza. Examine mounted specimens of a polar bear, snow geese, monarch butterflies, and more, and discover how these animals survive using one of two winter strategies - heading south or staying home.

Live Reindeer
Meet a pair of live reindeer in the East Garden. Don’t be confused by their antlers. Reindeer are the only species of deer in which both males and females have antlers.

Snowman Theater
Come inside an immersive digital dome shaped like a giant snowman to explore the science of Earth’s seasons. Children ages five and older will gain a new perspective on our planet and enjoy a close-up look at animals adapting to seasonal changes.

New programs for all ages are geared toward animals in winter, including:

Reindeer Rendezvous

Ever wonder how reindeer are able to travel so far? Get up close with live caribou and discover why these animals are known as the Nomads of the North, migrating up to 3,000 miles per year.

Holiday Migration Quest

Team up and investigate the winter migration patterns of gray whales and monarch butterflies by participating in a friendly game show-style trivia contest.

Specimen Spotlight: Migrating Monarchs

“Songs from the Summerland

The Summerland is that distant and fabled shining shore beyond the horizon where magic dwells - the place in the Uttermost West known by a thousand names and a thousand tales. Where the trees are always green, where winter winds never blow, where flowers are always in bloom, and where golden apples may be found... and where music is always to be heard... come, walk us on this evening of enchantment...

A benefit house memorial concert to honor Herb de Grasse, who left us through complications of pancreatic cancer on November 10.

The Fellowship Band will open this very special evening with some spirited originals and some old favorites.
Diana Rowan weaves her enchantment on harp strings
Margaret Davis and Kristoph Klover will present their musical magic
and Tom Bruce share will share his spirited songs on acoustic guitar

Special Guest: Diana Paxson will also present a rare performance welcoming us into her magical realms.
Ren Monson will also accompany Diana with a love song to Herb: A Red Rose is Love.

Please join us. Minimum donation requested: $15-$30 (or more!)

With much gratitude to the venue owners and all of the musicians and volunteers who are giving so freely of their time and energy, so that all of the moneys raised will go to and to assist in covering remaining medical expenses, and supporting Herb's widow, Ren Monson, in this time of need.”

This will also be a CAYA Fun For Everyone Event.

Cross Sidhe says:
“I want to let everyone know that Herb de Grasse is one of the first members of the Pagan community that I ever met. We served together from 1991 to the late 90s in the old Mystery Circle. I have not spent much time with him in recent years. However, he is always deep in my heart.  This concert is now a CAYA Fun For Everyone excursion. I ENCOURAGE everyone to join me.  I have 3 seats open.”

"Days in Midgard is a collection of modern legends based on Nordic myths.  These stories are more interesting to adults, although still appropriate for mature-minded children.

The Solstice Guests: A farm couple receives unexpected visitors.  Experience a cold night, visions of the future, and a little quiet terror, all in the home of Swedish farmer Ketil Gunnarsson and his wife, Sigrid.

An Honest Day's Work: A tradesman is shown a new use for an old tool.  His neck might be a little red, and you might think he talks funny, but he has better sense than most folks when dealing with a really strange day.

Endocrinology: A scientist has a party to attend, but she has nothing to wear. Carol is so intelligent, and so beautiful, men just assume they're not good enough for her. What's a girl to do?

Mead in the lobby at 7:00PM, performance at 7:30PM.

The theater is very close to the 16th Street BART station, and there is good parking nearby.”

A Lineman’s Notes
film screening
Saturday, December 1, 5:00-7:00PM
Silk Road House, 1944 University Avenue, Berkeley, 510-981-0700
http://www.silkroadhouse.org

“The film follows the life of a family inexorably tied to the railroad lost in Kazakh steppes, with this sepia-toned tale of an elderly blind lineman whose keen senses can check the soundness of the tracks, which his son watches, better than any modern computer. His son faces the problem of choice, to believe the machine invented by a human or to trust intuition of his father. The ageing lineman who has been checking the tracks for decades reflects on his life's work and the accomplishments that have fueled progress in his homeland over the years. As a result we have a uniquely touching film-parable about several generations of hard working men. The expressive musical score plays a significant role in the movie.

Language: Kazakh. Subtitles: English. Runtime: 64 min.

The screening will be introduced and commented on by Alma Kunanbaeva.

Silk Road House events are sponsored by the Silkroad Foundation.”

"Celebrate the Holiday Season in Victorian London!

The Great Dickens Christmas Fair 2011 garnered splendid reviews! New guests, as well as regular patrons, flocked to the Fair in record numbers. The spirit and good feeling in the streets of our Victorian London was inspiring! We look forward to an even more spectacular Fair this year.

2012 marks the 200th Anniversary of the birth of our progenitor Charles Dickens. Our celebration at the 34th annual Great Dickens Christmas Fair is part of a world-wide recognition of his life and works. Join the party each and every day of this year's Fair! Begin your preparations here.

The bustling streets of London, immortalized for all time by the mighty pen of Charles Dickens, form the living backdrop of your excursion into Christmas Past. You are a living part of a Victorian Christmas card come to life!

A Bay Area tradition since 1970, the Great Dickens Christmas Fair returns to the San Francisco Cow Palace Exhibition Halls for five weekends in 2012, including the Friday after Thanksgiving, from Friday, November 23 through Sunday, December 23, from 10:00AM 'til 7:00PM.

Created by Ron and Phyllis Patterson, the fair is now produced by Kevin and Leslie Patterson and Red Barn Productions, who continue the family tradition of theatrical excellence through authenticity, participation, and playfulness.

Come wander the lanes of Victorian London, as the glow of twilight settles upon the city, with the scent of pine boughs and freshly baked scones floating in the air and the sound of carolers and holiday merrymakers accompanying your stroll.

London is larger - over 120,000 square feet to explore!
Visit shops bedecked with Christmastime finery and filled with unique treasures.
Stop in for a hot toddy or a pint of Lagunitas at Mad Sal's Dockside Ale House, where the low-life hang out and the high-born drop in.
Raise a champagne toast to the holidays at Fezziwig's Warehouse, the most cheerful spot in London.
Enjoy rollicking entertainments on six stages and in the streets.
Feast on fine foods from the British Empire and beyond.
Rest a spell in Cuthbert's Tea House, for a sip of hot tea and cucumber sandwiches or scones.

Experience the joys of Christmas past at the Great Dickens Christmas Fair!”

We will approach this work according to the Doctrine of Signatures and shamanic exploration of the spirits within herbs. We will also examine various other methods traditionally used for money drawing.

Chas Bogan is an artist and mystic, having studied and practiced many diverse forms of metaphysics for the past 25 years. That experience is reflected in his art, which ranges from the design of unique divination tools to various other forms of sacred expression. His shamanic talents have lead him to create various collections of spiritual supplies crafted for Modern Conjure Brand, such as baths; oils; powders; waters; and more. He is available for consultations and spiritual work by appointment Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; during which
he may be serving my clients in my capacity as a Reiki Master Teacher; Rootworker; Tarot Reader; Conjure Doctor. He teaches various magical arts including the Feri Tradition of which he is an initiate.”

“One hour before sunrise on December 3rd, 2012 the planets Mercury, Venus and Saturn directly align with the Giza Pyramids in Egypt! From an esoteric point of view one may look at this as a very beneficial sign in that the conjunction of these planets may be indicating a victory or a grounding of the energies of Love as represented by Venus on the Earth through a lot of dedication and hard work (Saturn) of the Lightworkers, the messengers of the divine (Mercury).

It is also very interesting to consider that we are at the end of a 25,920 year cycle in the precession of the equinox, which occurs on December 21,2012. December 3 is 18 days prior to the 21st. If you add up the minutes in 18 days, (60 minutes X 24 hours X 18 days) it adds up to 25,920 minutes. 18 is also 6+6+6.

Join Temple of Isis clergy Heather Salmon, Donny Regalmuto and Chirsty Michaels at Isis Oasis for a talk, slide presentation and sound healing journey into exploring the significant Star, Planetary and Crop circles of 2012! “

The SBPS is a discussion and networking group, dedicated to talking about ‘Pagan Things’ and networking in the Bay Area. Generally we'll start each meeting with a specific topic to get the discussion rolling along, but after we get started it'll be rather open ended with the participants dictating where the discussion will go.

We hope you'll join us.

No donations required, heck, if you show up I just might buy you a cup of coffee.

If you've got questions, I might have answers. Email me (Jason) at panmankey@gmail.com

“Join us December 5 for an evening of Wonder Women and Superheroines.

Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman. From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s to the blockbusters of today, Wonder Women! looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society's anxieties about women's liberation

The International Museum of Women is pleased to present a Salon Speaker Series event featuring Wonder Women!  director Kristy Guevara-Flanagan in conversation with comics writer and expert Trina Robbins, and moderated by IMOW executive director Clare Winterton.  Join us to see clips from the film and hear how the Wonder Woman TV series became Guevara-Flanagan’s initial inspiration for the documentary.

"The Snow Queen is one of Hans Christian Andersen's dark (and bright) fairy tales, in which a courageous young person sets off on a quest to see what has become of her missing best friend.

Join us for a journey through an enchanted land where flowers speak in riddles and the birds and beasts may be your guides. Explore what it means to be a witch (we’ll meet several) and what it means to be lost and found again. Inhabiting this tale, we’ll discover how telling your story and asking for what you need can be the most magical tools of them all.

Fairy tale classes work with and within a story as one does at witch camps, only we get to go home for a week in between. We will use such magical tools as tale telling, spell casting, trance, song, movement, meditation, writing, and sacred theater as we inhabit this story together.

We ask that you commit to attending all six classes. Space is limited. A deposit of $30 holds your place.”
